The Once and Future Court is held at the Stronghold Camp and Retreat Center castle in Oregon, Illinois, USA. It's a 1.5-2 hour drive from Chicago O'Hare Airport, and we will be arranging a limited shuttle service.
Accessibility considerations
Indoor larp activities primarily take place on the second floor, which is 16 steps from the ground floor.
The most accessible bedrooms are on the ground floor, which still requires going down 6 steps outdoors.
Most of the beds are in dormitory style rooms, sharing a total of 1-2 bathrooms per floor.
Stronghold is a Tudor-style manor house built in the 1930's, nestled high on the bluffs overlooking Rock River in Oregon, Illinois, USA. It boasts a beautiful Great Hall with a massive wood fireplace for gatherings, thematic murals and decor, and even a secret passageway from the Library to the small Chapel.
The rustic lodging is dormitory-style across four floors, with both single and bunk beds in the large communal lodging rooms. There are 1-2 bathrooms per floor, and roughly 16 steps per flight of stairs. Linens and towels are provided by the site.
There are a limited number of more accessible rooms, but they still require going down 6 steps from outside to the ground floor.
The bedrooms are included as part of the castle venue rental. You are welcome to sleep elsewhere, e.g. at a hotel room that you rent independently, but we cannot provide discounted tickets if you choose to sleep off-site.
Note: Depending on player interest and site availability, we might be able to rent out more private bedrooms in a separate building on site at an additional fee.
Stronghold Camp and Retreat Center castle will be providing meals for the duration of the larp. As a site for summer camps, they are fully accustomed to handling many allergies and dietary restrictions.
Included meals, provided at the Brubaker Center retreat dining hall (a short walk from the Castle):
Friday dinner
Saturday breakfast, lunch, and dinner
Sunday breakfast and lunch
Also included in the cost of your ticket are snacks, coffee, and tea in the Castle. The Castle additionally has a full kitchen for player use, and a fridge that players can store their own food in, if they choose to bring in outside food and drinks.
The meals are included as part of the castle venue rental contract. You are welcome to eat elsewhere or bring your own food, but we cannot provide discounted tickets for opting out of venue-provided meals.
We will require:
Proof of Covid-19 vaccination (as current as is available to your demographic and region)
Rapid test within the 24 hours before your time of arrival at the venue (player provides their own pre-game test)
Rapid test the morning of day 2 (included in your ticket; we will provide tests for day 2)
